“Hugh and Mitzi” by Wayne Salge Abstract Figurative Sculpture, Stylized Busts of a Couple 13x14x3″ bronze ed/12 mounted on travertine stone base
“My bronze sculptures encompass human and animal forms which I depict in my own abstracted style: a ‘Salge blend’ of classical and contemporary elements. I utilize lines, shapes, and textures to reveal body movement, gesture, or stillness. I am not concerned with precise anatomy or plausible function; instead, I focus on the expression of attitude or emotion.” – Parrot Farm
ABOUT THE ARTIST: Born, raised, and educated in San Antonio, Texas, Wayne now resides in Colorado. In his bronze sculpture, Salge moves beyond anatomically accurate rendering to capture the essence of the personality of a horse, long-horn cattle, or other wildlife. He says of sculpting the horse, “I’m interested mainly in the overall look of the piece – seeing how far I can push the limits and still capture the horse – rather the different areas being correct. My sculpture can become abstract and people still know what they are.”
